Darbuka Lesson 6 – Slap & Rhythm revision [B]

Say goodbye to yellow. This is our last lesson at beginner level. Everything we have learnt so far we can play using only the basic sounds: Doum, Tek and Ka. If we add another sound, our playing will become stylish. It is like discovering the slap on the djembe. It is the “Pa” sound ! The Pa is essentially similar to the Doum, but unlike the Doum it is a closed sound, so our fingers stay on the membrane, or even grab it. Try the two sounds ! Let’s implement the Pa in some rhythms we know: In the Maqsuum. In Belledi. In Malfuf. And finally in Saidi – a new rhythm. Thanks for watching.
